Knaack Club Rebuild in Berlin: Building Permit Denied

The reopening timeline for Knaack Club in Berlin's Prenzlauer Berg has been set back by a rejected building permit decision. The approval setback threatens further delays to the club's plans.

The rebuild of the legendary Knaack Club at Eberswalder Straße near Mauerpark faces a setback as Berlin's Pankow district rejected the builders' preliminary construction permit application, making it impossible to confirm a reopening date beyond the planned end of 2030. The project, led by principal shareholder Udo Petter with support from Black Box Music founder Thilo Goos, is budgeted at a minimum of eight million euros and would feature a concert hall for around 1,000 people, a disco, rehearsal rooms, studios, and restaurants. The reasons for rejection remain unclear, though earlier obstacles included evacuation planning, traffic concept negotiations, and local residents' noise concerns.

Vienna Producer Demuja in Interview: "Really, Nobody Listens to All That Stuff Anyway, Right?"

Demuja discusses his creative process, revealing he has 400 finished tracks on disk and buys new synthesizers constantly. GROOVE speaks with the Vienna-based producer.

The 36-year-old Salzburg-based producer keeps approximately 400 finished tracks on disk, releasing them on Bandcamp faster than new ideas arrive, claiming that immediately after finishing a track he buys another synthesizer or effect, making his previous work sound 'old'. Demuja emphasizes the importance of limitation in production and loop purity, describing a process of testing loops for hours to ensure they won't bore the listener. He plans to divide his work into two distinct projects: Demuja (for DJ sets) and Dubmuja (for live setup), to avoid confusion with promoters, particularly regarding the choice between more house-oriented or dub-leaning sounds.
